An international choir based in Beijing China
The Deutsche Kantorei Peking (DKP) has been singing and performing Western classical choral music in Beijing since its foundation in 2010. The members of Deutsche Kantorei Peking are professional music teachers, students and music lovers from China, Germany, the UK, the United States, Canada, France, Belarus, Belgium, and other countries. Our choir is one of the few truly established multinational and multicultural art groups in Beijing. It provides a bridge of cultural exchange, excellent opportunities for Chinese and international people to do choral (especially German) music in Beijing.
In addition to regular large choir performances, small groups of singers also get together to work on dedicated chamber projects. We have presented a large repertoire, including big choral works like Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio” and “Saint John Passion”, Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Requiem”, Camille Saint Saens’ “Oratorio de Noël”, as well as various styles of smaller choral works ranging from Madrigals to the Renaissance, Baroque to Romantic and Modern. For example, DKP have sung Giovanni Gabrieli, Heinrich Schütz, John Herman Shane, Andreas Hammerschmidt, Hans Leo Hassler, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Maurice de Loeffler, Olivier Messiaen, Ola Gilejo, etc. We have been presenting classical and contemporary works’ premieres in China.
“Refreshing feeling, huge emotional resonance and pure enjoyment” is the feedback from the audience after our performances.
